The Beginning

Hey guys, my name is Kevin Holloman and I'm from Queens, NY. I'm just here to tell you about my first semester and my transition from a senior in high school to a freshman in college at St. Mikes. The entire summer I counted down the days and excitedly anticipated this epic change. I couldn't wait to walk onto campus and finally be on my own. My mother forced me to attend a summer program called "SOAR", something that I felt was silly and irrelevant. I was focused on my job and wanted to spend the last few weeks with my family and friends. To my surprise I was on my way to Vermont, to attend a summer program. SOAR is a program that allows you to register for classes, make friends, and get a preview of the campus for a weekend.

I packed my bags and was on my way. I landed in Vermont on July 16th, in awe. I had never seen scenery more beautiful and relaxing. Instantly, I felt at home and was excited to see MY St. Mike's. I walked into the dormitory and looked at the rooms and thought about how I would make it mine. I met a lot of people and some of them became my closest friends. We did many activities such as hiking, swimming, and kayaking, which helped spark conversation that led to our introductions. By the end of this experience I was glad I had listened to my mother and came because it eased all the worries I had about leaving the people I loved back home.

I returned home at the end of the weekend and found myself missing the campus and my new friends. Eventually, I made my move, my parents left me, and I was on my own. I was happy that I was familiar with the campus and that I had friends so it wasn't too hard being on my own. Here are some pictures of a hike from SOAR and a night out in Burlington.

Thanks for stopping by, feel free to ask me any questions on my formspring. <-- Kev
